Best activities to do in Niagara Falls during winter

February 4, 2023

Let’s cut to the chase, shall we? Niagara Falls is a must-see in Canada, no doubt about it. So if you’re here, it’s probably because you’re looking for the best activities to do in Niagara Falls during winter.

Whether it’s for a day or a weekend, with friends or with family, there is a lot to do and see.
I loved visiting the Falls (Canadian side). It was my first time, and I had a wonderful time!

Now, I guess I don’t need to remind you the basics like wearing several layers of clothing for such an outing in the middle of winter (especially near a waterfall).

Ready? Let’s go!

1. The Falls

Stop trying to justify yourself; we all know why you came to Niagara Falls – the waterfalls! No judgement here; we are all doing the same.

The falls are one of the most popular attractions in Canada, and for good reasons. Did you know that Niagara Falls is the term used for three waterfalls in the Niagara River that connects Lake Erie to Lake Ontario?
The Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls.

If you are on the Canadian side you can see all three perfectly. That’s why visiting from this site is the best (you didn’t hear that from me).

Although the falls are not as high as you might think, it’s still impressive. Plus, the U.S. is only… a bridge away!

2. Clifton Hills attractions

You can’t go to Niagara Falls without stopping at Clifton Hill, also known as “The Street of Fun at the Falls!” or Canada’s Little Vegas.

Who said amusement parks were only for kids? Even if you’re a grown-up, you’re bound to find something to enjoy. Museum, arcades, haunted houses, stores, restaurants, bars, Tim Hortons (always!) and more! You have to see it with your own eyes.

If you plan to try everything, you might consider a Clifton Hill Fun Pass, which essentially gets you admission into 6 top attractions like the Niagara Skywheel, Dino Adventure Golf, and more!

My top 3 attractions to try? The Wax Museum, Cosmic Coaster and the Great Canadian Midway Arcade!

3. Niagara Skywheel

Hard to miss when you walk around Clifton Hill. From the top of its 53 meters, this Ferris wheel is the best way to admire the falls from another perspective.

My advice is to wait until sunset to hop on. Once the night falls, get in the basket, let the heating system and the jazzy music put you in a cosy atmosphere, and admire the illuminated falls.

If you want to go for a loop, buy your SkyWheel tickets in advance here.
